I revisited the “heat training” from Wednesday with another midday run, but this one felt considerably less awful. It could have been the 1,000 ft less of elevation gain. 🙂
Half #85: too hot for hill repeats
Midday hill repeats probably wasn’t my best plan! I’m not sure if it was the heat, the route, general bodily fatigue, or my attitude, but this one was really tough.
Half #84: Rock Creek Trail, Hillsboro, OR
Today, I had the opportunity to run the length of both the Rock Creek Trail and the adjacent Rock Creek Regional Trail in Hillsboro, Oregon. Seems like a lovely paved trail system, though I felt a bit exposed to the sun on this warm day.
Half #83: South Island coast half
It has been ten half-marathons now since the hamstring twinge last month, and this was the first one where I felt comfortable enough to take it up to a sustained tempo effort. I did my favorite route as a sort of progression run, easing into the higher paces until I was keeping approximately 7min/mi for the second half.
Half #82: Wednesday group run
We have a group that meets every Wednesday evening for a trail run followed by drinks at the Bainbridge Brewery. This time, I started from home and ran to the start point to turn what is normally a 7-mile run into a half-marathon.
Half #81: scenic route home from auto shop
Dropping off my car for service gives me a rare opportunity for a point-to-point route.
Half #80: south-end cross-island
Every year, the Bainbridge Island Rotary Club puts on what might be the largest rummage sale in the world, and our Rotary Auction happened yesterday. So as I passed a much smaller endeavor, the New Sweden Community Free Stand (one of several on the Island), I was reminded of the things big and small that make a community. Thankful for this place!
Half #79: blackberry vine gauntlet
Before moving to the PNW, I knew of blackberries only as the delicious fruit, which I assumed grew in tidy lines in a field somewhere. Now I know of them as the bane of every gardener’s existence, as their extremely aggressive vines filled with thorns take over out here. At this point in the year, they are reaching out into a number of trails.
Half #78: southeast BI hill tour
Blakely, Old Mill, Halls, Toe Jam, and Baker hills. Get ya next time, Ft Ward.
Half #77: south-end cross-island
It was a warm day (for this area), so I was thankful for the kids selling lemonade in the last mile of my route!
