Half #108: South Island coast half

Half #108: South Island coast half

Posted on September 7, 2024 by Matthew Reiswig

I ran two intervals of 5k @sub 6:40min/mi with 0.75mi recovery in between, then an average of 7:15min/mi run back. Lucky to be joined for the last few miles by Keith Laverty!

I seldom run the trails in Fort Ward Park, despite coming through on the paved path regularly, so it was nice to cover the area, including a couple double-backs to hit each trail.

I ran the first 6 miles easy, then in the next 6 miles I built to a threshold pace.

Thankful for David Nelson at the Bainbridge Islander for calling attention to How Many Halfs and to Greg Nance for allowing me to partner with the Run Far Foundation and help a great cause. This particular run goes from Gazzam Preserve to the Grand Forest and back, a route that covers a chunk of the BURT ultra course and one I’ve done several times this year.

Sun and temps in the 80s came back, so it felt like August out there again.

After a couple 21mi runs this month, I finally got a full marathon in for August. A passing storm made for some beautiful skies.

The trails seemed cleared by the last two days of rain.

When I conceived of this project, 100 was the goal I had in mind for the full year. I’m pleasantly surprised to reach this point in August! For this one, I went back to my favorite local road route, along the coast of the south end of Bainbridge Island, and picked up the pace a bit.

Yesterday evening, I joined Mark Goodro for another section of his Run Every Street Bainbridge project, this time bouncing around the seemingly-infinite capillaries of the Battle Point area.

Half #98: table to farm to table

Half #98: table to farm to table

Posted on August 15, 2024 by Matthew Reiswig

I ran from my father-in-law’s house in Menno to the family farm where my wife, Deb, was raised, and then back again. Despite being warm, humid, and full of grasshoppers, it was a great experience.
