A group called the Bainbridge Ultra Running Team (BURT) puts on an ultramarathon here on the Island every year in February. I’m planning to run the 55K version this year, so this is training along the route.
Half #11
The south Bainbridge Island coast is just about the only place on the Island to string together a flat half route, so it is my go-to for efforts at a specific pace.
Half #10: Agate Point streets with Mark
How many half marathons will I run this year? Follow along at https://howmanyhalfs.com and support the Run Far Foundation for youth mental health.
For this half I got to join Mark for a leg of his “Run Every Street” challenge.
Half #9
I think everyone has to contend with a part of themselves that looks for reasons NOT to do something. Faced with an unrelenting rainy day in the 30s, and having run hard in the previous four days in a row, that voice saying “skip it” was definitely there today. Somehow, I managed to get out the door.
On the feature image, the top is today and the bottom is Monday, from the same spot. Some days you can see the Emerald City, and other days you just trust it is there.
Half #8: MLK Jr Day half
Coming back up from freezing temps, with clear views of Mts Rainier and Baker.
Frozen trail marathon (halfs #6 and #7)
30-degree drop to high-teens/low 20s and a dusting of snow made it feel like a brisk mountain run without the drive!
Half #5
Toe Jam Hill Rd was closed for downed power lines from last night’s storm. I made a road/trail mix out of the unplanned route.
Half #4
South end cross-Island half. Bainbridge Island has an official cross-island trail at about the midway point north/south, but this is one of several road-variants I use to reach both western and eastern shores.
1st full marathon of 2024! (aka half #2 and #3)
Fun fact: that makes 8 years in a row I’ve had at least one run of marathon length or longer…and none before then!
1st half marathon of 2024!
My year’s goals start here: I’m hoping to do quite a few of these this year. But how many?
