I ran a variation of what I call the South Island perimeter route, as it follows the coastline as closely as possible. The weather this weekend was unseasonably warm: 70˚ high was 20˚ over average. This was my first marathon since the BURT ultramarathon on 2/10, and I felt the extra miles.
Half #34: tempo run with negative splits
This is my fifth half marathon in 7 days (from 3/7 to 3/13). I followed the South-Island coast route, and did the second half faster than the first. It was an absolutely beautiful day out there today!
Half #33: Zigzagging SE Bainbridge Island
Partly to have a hilly run, and partly out of a desire to draw a new map, I ended up with a strange one here. Fortunate timing, as I managed to hit the dry sunny part of the day between two rains.
Half #32: intervals
Completed a workout including the following intervals: 6 x 1:00 @ 5:30min/mi, 3 x 1mi @ sub-6:30min/mi, and 1 x 3mi @ sub-7:00min/mi. Ran a little extra to push the week to 70 total miles.
Half #31: back-to-back half
I’m trying to capitalize on yesterday’s hard effort in order to train my legs to function while tired. Haven’t done a lot of back-to-back long runs yet this year, though they were a staple of my training last year. Fun fact: the feature picture shows alpacas at one of several farms on “old” McDonald Ave…I’m not making this up.
Half #30: unofficial half PR
I set a new personal record for the half marathon today (1:28:14), on a structured workout with a fast 14mi (6:44min/mi) between a 3mi warmup and a 1.75mi cooldown.
Half #29: South-end cross-island
Looping from west to east and back again the length of the Island, with a quick stop at Rockaway Beach for the stunning views across Puget Sound. Bonus: got a small bit of “graupel” (like little hail) during the run!
Half #28: wet angry feet
Route connecting Gazzam Nature Preserve with the Grand Forest, following a decent amount of our local BURT ultra route, but in reverse. I cut it a little bit short due to a developing hot-spot on my foot.
Half #27: Leap Day launch
I set out to do a fast 15k, with 2 miles each for warmup/cooldown. Ended up setting PRs for 10k, 15k, and 10mi distances!
Half #26: progression run
I tried to stay really faithful to the plan of 15 seconds faster for each of the first 13 miles in this run, starting at 9:30min/mi and ending at 6:30min/mi. The problem was the hills in the first half, which required me to push harder than I ought to for the given pace.
