It has been ten half-marathons now since the hamstring twinge last month, and this was the first one where I felt comfortable enough to take it up to a sustained tempo effort. I did my favorite route as a sort of progression run, easing into the higher paces until I was keeping approximately 7min/mi for the second half.

Every year, the Bainbridge Island Rotary Club puts on what might be the largest rummage sale in the world, and our Rotary Auction happened yesterday. So as I passed a much smaller endeavor, the New Sweden Community Free Stand (one of several on the Island), I was reminded of the things big and small that make a community. Thankful for this place!

Before moving to the PNW, I knew of blackberries only as the delicious fruit, which I assumed grew in tidy lines in a field somewhere. Now I know of them as the bane of every gardener’s existence, as their extremely aggressive vines filled with thorns take over out here. At this point in the year, they are reaching out into a number of trails.
