I had an earlier start today, because this afternoon my daughter gets back from three weeks in South Africa!
Half #93: South Island coast half
I kept up a sustained tempo effort at about 7:30min/mi for the entirety, with the exception of a few minutes during mile 11 spent walking with my neighbor whom I ran into along the way.
Half #92: Wednesday group run
Mark Goodro and I ran about 7 miles from our area in the south of the Island up to the meeting place for the Wednesday group run, which does an approximately 7-mile route. On the way, we picked off a couple more streets for Mark’s Run Every Street Bainbridge project.
Half #91: mud hunting
It rained this morning for the first time in a while, so I went looking for muddy trails. It has been so dry that my trail shoes have stayed embarrassingly clean so far this year!
Half #90: south-end cross-Island
I took the first 9mi or so fairly easy, then the next 5mi at sub-7:00min/mi, and a cooldown after that.
Half #88 and 89: South Island coast marathon
This was my first marathon since the Lumberjack 100k in June, over six weeks ago. While that might not sound like a long time, it is the longest gap between marathons so far this year, and the 100k feels like it was ages ago.
I kept the variables down by choice of route and just focused on a consistent pace. Glad to have logged one in July.
Half #87: Port Madison loop with Mark
Excited to have another “crossover event!” How Many Halfs meets Run Every Street Bainbridge, as I joined Mark Goodro for a section of his project. The feature image is the famous Frog Rock, found in this area.
Half #86: South Island perimeter
I revisited the “heat training” from Wednesday with another midday run, but this one felt considerably less awful. It could have been the 1,000 ft less of elevation gain. 🙂
Half #85: too hot for hill repeats
Midday hill repeats probably wasn’t my best plan! I’m not sure if it was the heat, the route, general bodily fatigue, or my attitude, but this one was really tough.
Half #84: Rock Creek Trail, Hillsboro, OR
Today, I had the opportunity to run the length of both the Rock Creek Trail and the adjacent Rock Creek Regional Trail in Hillsboro, Oregon. Seems like a lovely paved trail system, though I felt a bit exposed to the sun on this warm day.
